Fiji Fairtrade Sugar in the Asia–Pacific Region
Fiji Fairtrade Sugar: Asia–Pacific Market Study
Project jointly undertaken by Fairtrade ANZ & 2iis Consulting
2017 – 2018
The 'Fiji Fairtrade Sugar in the Asia–Pacific' Market Study had a simple purpose: to assist the Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) to identify and access sustainable and diversified future Fairtrade sugar markets in the Asia–Pacific region.
It explored the potential growth of Fair Trade and ethical products across the 57 countries of the Asia–Pacific region, before focusing on the potential for long–term Fiji Fairtrade Sugar sales in 20 countries that were identified in having the greatest potential for market growth.
The work built on a 2017 discussion paper commissioned by Fairtrade ANZ and undertaken by 2iis that explored the potential for the growth of Fairtrade in the Asia–Pacific, as well as a study completed in November 2017 that looked at the impact of Fairtrade Sugar in Fiji and the potential for future sustainable growth to 2030.
The project was completed at the end of 2018 with all the materials produced now being used by the Fiji Sugar Corporation to assist in long–term strategic planning and market development.
